Mike Lee, House Republicans To Introduce Legislation Defunding UN

Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) recently announced his intention to file a bill to defund the United Nations (UN), with some House Republicans also indicating they would push legislation to strip funding from the leftist government institution.

“Tomorrow I will file by bill to #DefundTheUN. Please like and repost if you’d like to see that bill become law,” Lee wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“So will I :)” Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) said in response to Lee’s post.

Roy’s press office later released a statement on X explaining why the GOP lawmaker will introduce a bill to defund the U.N.

“The UN doesn’t deserve a single DIME of American taxpayer money,” Roy’s office said. “That’s why Rep. Roy is looking forward to introducing House legislation alongside @RepMikeRogersAL and @SenMikeLee that would DEFUND it.”

Although depriving the U.N. of its lucrative funding would appeal to conservatives, such a measure is unlikely to pass Congress, given that Democrats control the Senate.

After expressing support for defunding the U.N., Lee suggested, “While we’re at it, let’s expel them too.”

In recent remarks, U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, a radical left climate alarmist, spoke of “the sickness bringing our climate to its knees. A sickness only you, global leaders, can cure.” The U.N. official added that “Earth’s vital signs are failing.”

Guterres, like most Democrats, called for governments worldwide to phase out fossil fuels — an idea that will negatively impact humanity. “Not reduce. Not abate. Phase out with a clear timeframe aligned with 1.5 degrees,” he said during a speech. “We can — you can — prevent planetary crash and burn.”

U.N. Climate Change Executive Secretary Simon Steil echoed Guterres’ remarks, declaring, “If we do not signal the terminal decline of the fossil fuel era as we know it, we welcome our own terminal decline.”

The U.N.’s blatant liberalism has been on full display for years. The international body has refused to condemn the brutalism of Hamas, a terrorist organization, against Israel and currently has communist countries, including China and Cuba as members of its Human Rights Council.

An Israeli professor recently denounced the U.N. for trying to “downplay” Hamas’ violence against Israel.
