TN Gov. Bill Lee Capitulates, Calls For Legislature To Adopt Red Flag Law

In the eyes of many pro-Second Amendment American patriots, Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee (R) surrendered to his political opponents over gun control after he told state legislatures that they ought to bring forth red flag laws.

This comes in wake of the tragic incident at Nashville’s Covenant School, where a woman took the lives of three children and adults. Some Second Amendment advocates argue the shooting at the Christian school serves to prove that red flag legislation would not be effective, as the perpetrator’s parents were unaware of her violent plan.

Left-wing activists sprung into action to ratchet up the pressure on Lee to enact gun control. A reporter named Chris O’Brien, who is seemingly close with the disgraced and recently expelled Democrat state Rep. Jones, posted a video reportedly showing dozens of children from Tennessee’s Glendale Elementary writing letters to the governor, pleading for more stringent gun control. The reporter added that the children planned on marching to the governor’s home to drop the notes off.

It seems something worked out for the anti-gun movement, as Lee, a Republican, is now calling for his state lawmakers to tighten the rules.

“I’m asking the General Assembly to bring forward an order of protection law,” Lee announced at a police precinct in Nashville, according to The Tennessean. “A new, strong order of protection law will provide the broader population cover, safety, from those who are a danger to themselves or the population.”

“This is our moment to lead and to give the people of Tennessee what they deserve,” Lee said.

The U.S. state to first enact such legislation was Connecticut in 1999, according to Breitbart News. These laws notably did nothing to stop the tragic shooting that occurred in 2012 at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, where a man massacred 20 first graders and six school employees before taking his own life.

Perhaps even more damning examples of increased gun control not working can be observed in California, where Gov. Jerry Brown (D) approved gun violence restraining order legislation in October of 2014. As Breitbart noted, as of June 2022 the state was deemed number one in gun restrictions while also holding the top place in “active shooter incidents.”

Lee proclaimed to reporters that he sees a “clear need for action,” adding that people must “set aside politics” and their pride alike in order to ostensibly end violent gun crimes. Such a platitude proves convoluted given that Lee’s request for the legislature to enact red flag laws is quite literally a political demand.
