Taylor Swift’s endorsement of Kamala Harris is drawing mixed reactions, according to a recent YouGov poll. After last Thursday’s presidential debate, Swift announced her support for Harris and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) via Instagram, highlighting their stances on various issues.
The poll reveals that only 8% of voters are now more inclined to support Harris because of Swift’s endorsement. In contrast, 20% of respondents said they are less likely to vote for Harris due to Swift’s announcement. A substantial 66% of voters reported that Swift’s endorsement did not influence their voting decision.
Public sentiment on celebrity endorsements is divided. Forty-one percent of participants believe Swift should steer clear of political commentary, while 38% support her right to make public endorsements. The poll also found that 66% of respondents are not Swift fans, with 28% identifying as fans and 6% as “big fans,” mostly women and registered Democrats.
Swift’s endorsement led to a rise in voter engagement, with 337,826 people visiting vote.gov through her link. However, the impact of this endorsement on Harris’s campaign remains uncertain.
Additionally, 46% of voters felt Harris performed better in the debate compared to 19% for President Donald Trump, but only 6% said the debate affected their voting plans. The poll suggests that while Swift’s endorsement generates significant attention, it does not necessarily translate into increased support for Harris.
