Trump Outpaces Harris On Economic Issues, New Polls Show

As the 2024 presidential race heats up, recent polls suggest President Donald Trump holds a significant edge over Vice President Kamala Harris on economic issues.

A Cygnal poll released Thursday paints a clear picture of voter priorities. Nearly a third of voters, 30.4%, ranked “inflation and economy” as their top concern. On this crucial issue, Trump comes out ahead.

When asked which candidate they’d trust more on “Economy and jobs,” 49.3% of voters picked Trump, with 42.6% saying they’d “definitely” trust him most. Harris lagged behind at 43.8%, with only 33.7% expressing strong confidence in her economic leadership.

The gap widens on “Inflation and cost of living,” where 48.6% favor Trump compared to 42.2% for Harris. This 6.4-point spread could spell trouble for the Vice President, especially given her recent promises to tackle rising prices if elected.

Frank Burns, a political analyst, noted, “These numbers are particularly worrying for Harris. As the sitting VP, voters might expect her to have a plan for the economy already. The fact that Trump, out of office for years, is seen as more trustworthy on this issue is a red flag for her campaign.”

A Fox News poll echoed these findings, showing Trump with a 6-point lead on economic issues.

The economy’s importance in this race can’t be overstated. As Jane Smith, a voter from Ohio, put it, “I’m worried about putting food on the table and gas in my car. I need a president who understands that.”

With the election still months away, Harris faces an uphill battle to convince voters she’s the right choice to steer the economy. As these polls suggest, her success may hinge on changing minds about her economic credentials.
