ABC News has set the stage for the Sept. 10 presidential debate between President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris. The 90-minute event will take place at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, with David Muir and Linsey Davis serving as moderators. This will be the first in-person debate between the two candidates.
The debate will feature no audience, and microphones will be active only for the candidate who is speaking. Trump won the coin toss to determine closing statements and will deliver the final remarks, while Harris will stand at the right podium. No opening statements will be made, and each candidate will have two minutes for closing statements.
Each question will be followed by a two-minute response from the candidates, with an additional two minutes for rebuttals. An extra minute will be allotted for clarification or follow-up. Candidates are prohibited from using props or pre-written notes, but they will have access to a pen, pad of paper, and water. Staff members will not be allowed to interact with the candidates during commercial breaks.
The debate will be broadcast live at 9 p.m. ET on ABC News, Disney+, and Hulu. A pre-debate show will air at 8 p.m., featuring top political correspondents Martha Raddatz, Jonathan Karl, and others.
This debate is seen as a critical opportunity for both candidates to sway undecided voters as the 2024 election approaches.
