Courier Newsroom, a media organization heavily funded by billionaire George Soros, is stepping up its efforts to counter President Donald Trump and Republican candidates in Nevada. Through its local website, “The Nevadan,” Courier has launched a digital ad campaign aimed at boosting Democrats like Sen. Jacky Rosen (D-NV) and Vice President Kamala Harris while spreading misleading claims about Trump.
The organization was founded by Democrat operative Tara McGowan with a stated mission to fight disinformation. However, critics argue Courier’s true aim is to manipulate voters. NewsGuard, a media watchdog, described Courier as a “clandestine political operation” that tricks readers into believing they are consuming unbiased local news.
The Nevadan’s recent ad campaign includes a claim that Trump would reinstate the military draft, despite Trump explicitly denying any such plan. This content is pushed aggressively on social media platforms like Facebook, targeting voters who may not realize they are engaging with a Democrat-backed outlet.
Since its creation, Courier has focused on swing states, expanding rapidly to increase its influence in key elections. The organization is bankrolled by donations from major Democrat donors, including Soros, who contributed $20 million through his foundations starting in 2021. Even after separating from its original owner, ACRONYM, the network continues to function as a partisan tool while skirting FEC disclosure rules by claiming to be a legitimate news service.
