New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy has requested federal assistance to investigate an increase in mysterious drone sightings across the state. Despite reassurances from state and federal authorities that there is no immediate public safety threat, the lack of concrete answers has left residents unsettled.
“We don’t see any concern to public safety,” Murphy stated, referencing investigations by Homeland Security, the FBI, and state police. However, he acknowledged the frustration of citizens, adding, “It’s really frustrating that we don’t have more answers as to where they’re coming from.”
The drones have primarily been observed along the Raritan River, with 49 reports recorded in one evening alone. Authorities are working to determine whether overlapping accounts have inflated these numbers, but the continued sightings have raised concerns about their origin and intent.
The FBI has issued a call for public assistance in identifying the source of the drones. Reports include clusters of drones and possibly a fixed-wing aircraft, but investigators have yet to uncover any definitive evidence of their purpose.
Some speculate the drones may be conducting surveillance, as the Raritan River area is home to several pharmaceutical and manufacturing facilities. The advanced capabilities of modern drones, including precision targeting and reconnaissance, have made them a potential tool for espionage.
Gov. Murphy’s request for federal support highlights the need for improved drone monitoring and regulation. As the investigation continues, residents and officials alike await answers about these unexplained aerial phenomena.
