MTG Suggests Defunding NPR And PBS In Waste-Cutting Campaign

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), the incoming chairwoman of the House Subcommittee on the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), has called for a comprehensive review of federal spending, including potential cuts to government-funded media like NPR and PBS. Greene accused these outlets of serving as “Democrat propaganda machines” and questioned their value to taxpayers.

In an appearance on Fox News, Greene discussed her plans to identify and eliminate wasteful spending as part of an effort to address America’s $36 trillion national debt. “It’s everywhere — every department, every program, every grant,” Greene said. She singled out NPR and PBS, stating, “We’ll be looking at everything, including government-funded media programs that spread nothing but Democrat propaganda.”

The subcommittee will also examine other questionable expenditures, such as grants funding “sex acts in Malaysia” and “toilets in Africa.” Greene criticized the Pentagon for its inability to account for billions of dollars annually, pledging to investigate waste in defense spending as well.

Greene’s subcommittee will operate under the leadership of President-elect Donald Trump’s appointees, Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, who have been tasked with cutting up to $1 trillion from the federal government’s $6.75 trillion budget. Their mandate includes scrutinizing spending on everything from overpriced military contracts to cultural programs overseas.

Advocates for public broadcasting and federal workers have expressed concern about potential cuts, arguing that such programs provide valuable services. Critics, however, see NPR and PBS as biased and outdated, questioning their reliance on taxpayer funding.

The DOGE subcommittee’s aggressive approach to waste reduction aligns with Trump’s broader efforts to reform government spending and prioritize fiscal responsibility. Greene’s comments suggest that no program is off-limits as the new administration takes aim at reducing the federal budget.
