Vice President Kamala Harris spread numerous falsehoods during her debate with President Donald Trump. Here are five of the most egregious lies.
1. Trump’s Tax Cuts Helped The Wealthy
Harris falsely claimed that Trump’s 2017 tax reforms only benefited the wealthy. However, IRS data shows that working-class and middle-income families were the largest beneficiaries, with the reforms providing significant tax relief across various income levels.
2. Claiming Trump Would Sign A National Abortion Ban
Harris falsely asserted that Trump would sign a national abortion ban if re-elected. Trump’s platform specifically states that abortion decisions should be left to the states, and there is no evidence supporting Harris’ claim.
3. Misrepresenting Trump’s Stance On IVF
Harris falsely claimed that Trump opposes IVF treatments, a claim that has no basis in fact. Trump has expressed support for reproductive treatments like IVF, making Harris’ statement entirely false.
4. Fabricating Trump’s Plan For A ‘Sales Tax’
Harris claimed Trump would implement a national sales tax, but Trump has made no such proposal. This false claim was an attempt to alarm voters with no factual backing.
5. ‘Middle-Class Kid’ Narrative
Harris attempted to paint herself as growing up in a middle-class household, but her privileged upbringing — with a Stanford professor father and a biomedical scientist mother — does not fit that narrative.
Trump’s ability to push back on these lies was hindered by the moderators, who fact-checked him frequently while giving Harris a pass. It was effectively a “three on one” debate, with Trump debating Harris and the two moderators.
