Homan Seeks Funding For Largest Deportation Effort In US History

Tom Homan, President-elect Donald Trump’s newly appointed border czar, has called on Congress to allocate funding for what he described as the largest deportation operation in U.S. history. Homan outlined his vision during an interview on CNN, requesting resources for 100,000 migrant detention beds to detain and deport undocumented immigrants.

“We need Congress to give us some money to get this done,” Homan said, adding that he does not yet know the full scope of the budget required. He explained that additional funding would help expand detention capacity and transportation contracts necessary to carry out the operation.

Homan argued that the American people endorsed stricter immigration enforcement by electing Trump. “The more deportation officers I have, the more migrants we can detain and deport,” Homan said, emphasizing the importance of additional resources.

The plan, estimated to cost at least $86 billion, involves Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers conducting enforcement actions nationwide on Trump’s first day in office. Homan also proposed using military aircraft to deport individuals but clarified that the military would not assist in arrests.

Trump has vowed to hold foreign governments accountable by threatening to sever economic ties with nations that refuse to accept deportees. Homan echoed this sentiment, stating that Congress should support the operation to meet the administration’s goals.

Homan, a former acting director of ICE, has been a vocal critic of lenient immigration policies under the Biden administration. His role as border czar will involve overseeing Trump’s ambitious immigration agenda.
