The gloves are off when it comes to Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) and the Biden administration over the chaos at the border. Over the past few months, both parties have been involved in a power struggle in controlling how to deal with the influx of illegal immigrants crossing the U.S.-Mexico border.
Tension escalated after an illegal immigrant woman and her two children, aged 10 and eight, drowned while attempting to cross the Rio Grande on Jan. 13. Border Patrol agents stated that they were blocked from saving the family due to Texas authorities blocking off Shelby Park in Eagle Pass.
Texas officials had a different version of the incident. According to state officials, the drownings had already occurred, and Mexican officials were recovering the bodies when Border Patrol tried to demand access.
If things couldn’t be worse for the Biden administration, Texas law enforcement began arresting illegal immigrants caught crossing into Shelby Park last Wednesday.
“The only people that they are arresting are single females, single males, but they must be at least 18 years of age,” said Texas Department of Public Safety Sergeant Rene Cordova.

Tension is expected to continue after the Supreme Court ruled on Monday that Border Patrol agents could take down the razor wire that Texas installed across the border, giving the Biden administration a major win and allowing more illegal immigrants to flood into the country.

While the decision is a damaging blow to Texas, it is expected that Abbott will not stop protecting Texas or its citizens.
On Monday, a spokesman for Abbott told Newsweek that the Biden administration opened the “floodgates to illegal immigrants” by cutting down the wire that Texas installed to keep its borders and citizens safe.
“The absence of razor wire and other deterrence strategies encourages migrants to make unsafe and illegal crossings between ports of entry while making the job of Texas National Guard soldiers and DPS troopers more dangerous and difficult,” he said. “This case is ongoing, and Governor Abbott will continue fighting to defend Texas’ property and its constitutional authority to secure the border.”
