Fear Of Trump’s Policies Prompts Illegal Immigrants To Self-Deport

As President-elect Donald Trump prepares to return to office, illegal immigrants in Mexico are increasingly self-deporting in anticipation of stricter border policies. Mexican authorities report that up to 100 migrants have voluntarily decided to return to their home countries, citing Trump’s immigration plans as a key factor.

Migrants have expressed concerns over Trump’s vow to eliminate the “CBP One” app, a tool that has allowed them to digitally apply for asylum without court appearances. Critics argue the app has fast-tracked amnesty and encouraged abuse of the asylum process.

The Trump administration also plans to reintroduce the “Remain in Mexico” policy, which requires asylum seekers to wait in Mexico while their cases are processed. This policy, credited with reducing illegal crossings during Trump’s first term, is expected to be reinstated soon after his inauguration.

For some migrants, the prospect of tougher enforcement is too much to bear. “I cry every day and ask God to take me back,” one individual said. Another admitted, “If I don’t get the appointment, I will go back.”

Trump’s strategy also includes targeting cartels involved in human smuggling. Tom Homan, the incoming Border Czar, described the cartels as more deadly than terrorist organizations and outlined plans to use Special Operations forces to dismantle them.

The ripple effects of Trump’s policies are already being felt as illegal immigrants choose to leave rather than face the heightened enforcement measures expected in the coming months.
