Cornel West, an Independent candidate in the 2024 presidential race, has made serious accusations against Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign, claiming they attempted to bribe him to drop out. West disclosed during a Status Coup News podcast interview that Harris’s team offered him a cushy role in her administration, along with a promise to cover his campaign debts, in exchange for exiting the race.
West’s candidacy has been a point of contention for the Democratic Party, especially as polling data suggests he could draw votes away from Harris in critical swing states, potentially tipping the scales in favor of President Donald Trump. West’s presence on the ballot has been met with resistance, but he remains committed to his campaign.
West recounted that Harris campaign members reached out to him, urging him to align with Harris’s campaign, portraying it as a pivotal moment for Black Americans. However, West was unimpressed, responding that their attempts to offer him resources or positions were misguided. “That’s not the game I play,” he stated emphatically.
When pressed by the podcast host about whether a specific government role was offered, West hinted at discussions that could have led to such an offer but did not provide further details. The allegations, if accurate, could cast a shadow over the Harris campaign, raising questions about the lengths to which they might go to secure victory in the 2024 election.
West is on the ballot in several swing states, including Wisconsin, Georgia, and Pennsylvania. A Michigan judge recently ruled in favor of placing him on that state’s presidential ballot as well. These developments echo past Democratic strategies, such as the alleged attempt to push Rep. Joe Sestak (D-PA) out of a Senate race during the Obama administration.
