Comer Threatens To Charge FBI Director With Contempt

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R) strongly responded to a reporter on Monday who inquired about the reason Congress isn’t solely relying on the FBI’s account regarding their participation in an ongoing investigation related to President Joe Biden.

On Monday, Comer made an announcement that he intends to initiate the proceedings to hold FBI Director Christopher Wray in contempt of Congress. Comer has maintained his argument that the FD-1023 form, purportedly indicating the involvement of then-Vice President Biden in a criminal bribery scheme, exists and is in the FBI’s possession.

Last week, Comer had already issued a threat to hold Wray in contempt and had set a deadline of May 30 for the FBI to produce the document. The FBI, citing concerns over jeopardizing the investigation and protecting sources, has consistently refused to hand over the document.

After some time, the FBI eventually presented the document to Comer. However, on Monday, Comer claimed that the FBI is still not fully adhering to the subpoena by failing to hand over all the requested documents to the committee.

Comer commented, “At the briefing, the FBI again refused to hand over the unclassified record to the custody of the House Oversight Committee. And we will now initiate contempt of Congress hearings this Thursday.”

A reporter then asked Comer, “Why do you need the document at hand? You just got a chance to review it. Why move forward with contempt when the FBI says they’re cooperating in good faith?”

Comer replied, “Well, let’s just look at what I’ve read in a lot of the media accounts, and with statements that Ian Sams has made from the White House that you know, there’s no merit to this, this is crazy, this is a conspiracy theory, and you’re just supposed to take my word or the FBI’s word? I’m supposed to take the FBI’s word that they’re investigating this? Or that you’re gonna write that the source is unverified, remember the main reason they’re not wanting to make this public is because they’re concerned about the source.”

The document in question included an interview with a witness who made allegations that Biden had accepted a $5 million bribe.

Comer stated in April that he believes at least nine members of the Biden family were engaged in international business ventures during Joe Biden’s tenure as vice president.
