Earlier this month, one of MS-13’s senior leaders was apprehended after eluding the FBI. After four years of being on the run, Freddy Ivan Jandres-Parada was captured by FBI agents at the San Ysidro Port of Entry near the California-Mexico border on Mar. 7.

According to a detention order, the 48-year-old voluntarily waived his right to bail.
First reported by CNN, Jandres-Parada was accused by New York prosecutors of being a member of the gang’s board of directors, known as the Ranfla Nacional. He has been wanted since December 2020. Before his capture, the FBI offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to his capture.

“Freddy Ivan Jandres Parada is wanted for his alleged involvement in directing MS-13 operations in the United States, Mexico, and El Salvador,” the FBI said.
“Jandres Parada is accused of numerous acts of violence against civilians, law enforcement, and rival gang members, as well as multiple terrorist offenses for directing drug distribution and extortion schemes around the world,” the agency added.
Going by the nickname “Lucky de Park View,” the El Salvadoran national is being held at the San Diego federal jail and is pending transfer to New York to face trial.
He faces charges of conspiracy to provide and conceal material support and resources to terrorists, conspiracy to commit acts of terrorism transcending national boundaries, conspiracy to finance terrorism and narco-terrorism conspiracy.
“He is alleged to be among the most senior leaders of MS-13 worldwide,” the FBI posted on its website. “Jandres-Parada has been charged with several terrorism offenses for his alleged role in ordering numerous acts of violence against civilians, law enforcement, and rival gang members, as well as drug distribution and extortion schemes worldwide.”
In total, 14 suspected MS-13 members are facing charges; 11 of them have been in custody for years, according to the New York Post.

Two other members of the gang’s board of directors, Cesar Humberto Lopez-Larios and Hugo Armando Quinteros-Mineros, are still on the run.
MS-13 is one of the deadliest gangs in the U.S. It was founded in the 1980s by Central American immigrants in Los Angeles.
