Actress Bette Midler Throws Tantrum Over Blue Badge Loss

Longtime Hollywood actress and singer Bette Midler appeared quite agitated on Thursday after she made a series of posts on Twitter, attacking CEO Elon Musk — calling him a “worm” — because he dared to strip her of a verification badge that is now only available to paying subscribers.

“Elon took my blue check away! I’m unverified! After all these years and thousands of tweets and free content, this worm has the nerve to de-certify me!” Midler’s first post on the matter exclaimed.

This reaction by Midler comes after Twitter announced that any account with a previously existing blue check mark would be required to pay a monthly subscription of $8 to Twitter Blue should they want to keep the verification.

“Twitter’s current lords & peasants system for who has or doesn’t have a blue checkmark is bullshit. Power to the people! Blue for $8/month,” Musk reportedly wrote online in Nov. 2022, speaking on the old system.

Midler followed up her remarks with further posts, characterizing herself as a person “who has contributed mightily” to Twitter’s success before implying that Musk is having financial struggles and referring to him as a “pathetic douche.”

“Elon, deciding that I’m not me, I’m a fake, & obliging ME, who has contributed mightily to your platform, (at least until you ‘tweaked the algorithm & tanked my metrics’) to pay monthly because you don’t have enough money & you’re humiliated b/c everyone thinks you’re a pathetic douche, is the funniest thing you’ve ever done. Let that sink in. Sorry to hear about your rocket,” Midler’s rant reads.

She appeared to be making a joke about the recent SpaceX rocket launch, which ended up in flames:

Some have decided to troll Midler over her remarks; the popular Carpe Donktum account made a point to launch a GoFundMe campaign meant to assist Donktum with the $8 fee. The campaign appears to no longer be put up, but received at least $114 in donations, according to BizPac Review.

Other responses that were likely made at Midler’s expense can be found below:

“Who are you?” asked one user.

Another political account with a sizable following posted a mocking gif of a person pretending to cry.

Upon being asked by Fox News to offer a comment on the story, Twitter reportedly replied with a poop emoji.
