Residents of an Aurora, Colorado apartment complex are living in fear after the Tren de Aragua (TdA), a violent gang from Venezuela, reportedly took control of their building. The gang, known for its criminal activities in Venezuela, has expanded its operations to the United States, with Aurora being a recent target.
The Edge apartment complex, located at 1568 Nome St., near Colfax and Peoria, has become a base for the gang. Social media videos show gang members carrying firearms as they move through the hallways, creating a sense of terror among the residents. Cindy Romero, who lives in the complex, described the experience as a “nightmare,” revealing that she and her husband had to take extreme security measures just to protect themselves.
The city of Aurora has responded by citing numerous code violations and moving to close the complex. CBZ Management, which operates the building, has expressed frustration, stating that the gang’s presence has made it impossible to conduct maintenance.
Aurora police have confirmed the gang’s presence but have attempted to minimize the situation by calling it “isolated.” However, the residents, who live in constant fear, feel otherwise. The gang is involved in a range of violent activities, including human smuggling, drug trafficking, and extortion, which have now reached the doorstep of this Colorado community.
City Council member Danielle Jurinsky has spoken out against the lack of support for residents trapped in these conditions, highlighting that while assistance is available for migrants, American citizens are left to fend for themselves.
The situation in Aurora is a disturbing example of how transnational gangs can infiltrate and terrorize local communities. As the city grapples with this crisis, the safety and security of its residents hang in the balance.
