‘Sanctuary City’ Chicago Immediately Relocates Illegals Bussed From Texas

Mayor Lori Lightfoot (D) says Chicago is a “welcoming sanctuary city,” but her actions speak a lot louder than words — as the Democrat mayor has begun taking illegal immigrants bussed to the city from Texas and relocating them to the suburbs.

Chicago began moving in the direction of declaring itself a “sanctuary city” for illegal immigrants “at least as far back as 2015,” according to reporting from Breitbart News. Since Lightfoot took office in 2019, she has made sure to reiterate that policy, noting that the city is a “welcoming” place for illegal immigrants.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott began bussing illegals from border towns to Democrat-run “sanctuary cities” earlier this year, starting with New York City and Washington, D.C. — and recently added Chicago to the list, drawing the ire of Lightfoot.

Despite her proclamation that her city is a “welcoming sanctuary city,” Lightfoot has expressed anger over Abbott’s actions, calling him a “racist” and a “xenophobe” for daring to send illegals her way.

“This is about a cheap political point. It’s not about sharing the load. To Greg Abbott and his enablers in Texas: with these continued political stunts, [he] has confirmed what many of us had already known: he’s a man without any morals, humanity, or shame,” the Chicago mayor said early this month.

Of course, Lightfoot is completely ignoring the point that the Texas governor is trying to make — that the policies advocated for by these sanctuary cities and pro-open borders Democrats are causing serious harm to border towns. By forcing NYC, Washington, D.C. and Chicago to experience a flood of just a few thousand illegal immigrants at once, Abbott is hoping to highlight the plight of tiny border towns that see millions of illegals every year.

Despite her repeated claims to love illegals, Lightfoot has decided not to welcome them to Chicago, and has instead been relocating them to the nearby suburb of Burr Ridge, according to reporting from WGN 9 News.

Even worse, she didn’t even coordinate with the locals prior to taking this action, and town leaders are shocked and angered.

According to Burr Ridge Mayor Gary Grasso, Chicago did not coordinate with them prior to relocating dozens of illegal immigrants to a local hotel.

“I am concerned neither the village administrator nor I were told about this,” the mayor said. “We want to know: Why Burr Ridge?”

Grasso went on to note that, while Cook County is supposedly a sanctuary county, his town never joined the sanctuary movement. In fact, during a recent campaign for Congress, Grasso advocated for reducing illegal immigration and defunding sanctuary cities.

The mayor also revealed that the local government had only been made aware of the fact that Chicago had dumped illegal immigrants in Burr Ridge when local residents contacted city hall to complain.

After they discovered what had happened, Grasso and other members of the Burr Ridge town council were belatedly invited to a conference call with state officials.

Hilariously, Lightfoot previously attacked Abbott for not “coordinating” with Chicago before he bussed illegals to the city — which is exactly what she did when she dumped them at a hotel in the suburbs.

“My frustration comes from the actions of the governor of Texas,” the Chicago mayor said on September 4, after the first bus load of 50 illegals arrived. “There could be a level of coordination and cooperation, but he chooses to do none of those things and instead tries to send human beings — not cargo, not freight — human beings across the country to an uncertain destination.”

While leaders in Chicago, NYC and Washington, D.C., are complaining about a relatively small number of illegals being bussed to their cities, Texas and other border states have seen a massive flood of more than one million illegals released into the country by the Biden administration since President Joe Biden took office. Alongside those who are released, these border areas also have to deal with the hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants who successfully cross the border without coming into contact with Border Patrol agents.

Texas has been hit especially hard by the flood of illegals.

Border agents in Del Rio, Texas, recently caught almost 13,000 illegal immigrants over the span of just one week — that’s an average of 1,900 apprehensions a day, which is approximately a third of Del Rio’s total population.
