Appearing on Newsmax’s “National Report” on Monday, Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) dismissed China’s threats against Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), condemning their attempted intimidation of the Democrat congresswoman ahead of her trip to Taiwan while also asserting that the communist country is simply posturing.
While China may “rattle the sabers” over Pelosi’s planned visit to Taiwan, they won’t actually take any action despite their threats, according to Burchett.
“I told somebody that would be the safest trip you can go on,” the Tennessee Republican claimed. “It’s like they will be riding on cotton balls over there.”
China is “not going to do anything that’s ridiculous,” according to Burchett, including shooting down her plane, which was a response suggested by a Chinese propagandist last week. Still, the congressman added, if the communist country flexes its muscle, “America better stand up and do what’s right and visit our allies.”
Burchett went on to say that the tension over whether Pelosi will visit Taiwan in the midst of threats from China would not have happened under the leadership of former President Donald Trump in the same way as it is with President Joe Biden in office.
“President Xi [Jinping] would have called Trump and guarantee you in that two-hour conversation, it would not have been dominated by him telling Trump what to do, as he did Biden,” Burchett said.
During a call between the Chinese president and Biden amid tensions over Pelosi’s trip, China’s foreign ministry quoted Xi as reportedly telling the president: “Those who play with fire will perish by it.”
This comes after the Biden administration’s unbelievably weak response to the threats against Pelosi from China.
During a press conference on Friday, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was asked by Fox News reporter Peter Doocy whether President Joe Biden had a response to the threat from communist China. Her answer elicited outrage from critics who argued that the administration was showing weakness in response to threats from a hostile foreign power.
“I know you’re asking specifically about the rhetoric that we’re hearing from China. But as it relates to the speaker’s travels, it’s something that we’re just not going to speak to. Right now, that’s a hypothetical. We’re just not going to speak on her schedule,” the press secretary responded. “As we have said multiple times, we give advice and guidance to any members of Congress where they travel… But again, I’m not going to speak to a hypothetical.”
Unbelievable: Karine Jean-Pierre says the White House won't respond to Chinese state media threats to shoot down Nancy Pelosi's plane should she visit Taiwan.

According to Burchett, China’s leaders “see the writing on the wall” and are acting “tough” for their people, but once Republicans take back control of the U.S. government again, “this kind of thing will back off.”
Right now, China knows that they have to “do everything they can to get Taiwan before we take over because when we take over, they know it’s a new game and we’re not gonna play ball with them,” the GOP congressman added. “We will put the full economic might behind America and behind our allies, and that’s what we should have been doing all along.”
In the same interview, Burchett also responded to claims from the Biden administration that the proposed “Inflation Reduction Act” would cut costs in light of new information revealed by the nonpartisan Joint Committee on Taxation, which found that the legislation would actually raise taxes for the millions of Americans who make less than $400,000 a year — despite claims to the contrary from Biden and the Democrats.
The Schumer-Manchin bill (the “Inflation Reduction Act”) would increase taxes by over $16.7 billion in 2023 for households with income under $200,000.

The Tennessee Republican noted that he is not surprised by the revelation, as the Democrats are “the party of the big money.”
“Look at your northeast, California, the Silicon Valley,” Burchett added. “Those areas heavily funded very liberal Democrat candidates, and that’s what you’re seeing now… we’ll go through a 16-hour committee meeting in transportation, and then the liberals will go in Speaker Pelosi’s office and rewrite the entire bill.”
