Business mogul Elon Musk used his social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, to discuss his feelings on vaccine mandates. Musk declared he would rather go to jail than fire workers who refused the vaccine.
The topic of COVID mandates, including vaccines and masking, has returned to the spotlight. Rumors of new strains of COVID and government shutdowns are spawning reactions all over the country.
Musk discussed his views on vaccine mandates with his social media followers, stating his concerns were with the demands placed on individuals to obtain the vaccine. Musk went on to say that he was not against vaccines. He was against the lack of choice regarding taking the vaccines.
“Until the Supreme Court invalidated Biden’s exec order, SpaceX and many other companies would have been forced to fire anyone who refused to get vaccinated! We would not have done so. I would rather go to prison than fire good people who didn’t want to be jabbed.”
Musk’s viewpoint on the mandated vaccines is shared by many. In recent debates and presidential election discussions, Gov. Ron Desantis (R-FL) gave his views on vaccinations and government mandates.
In recent statements, Desantis has made it clear he is not anti-vaccination. DeSantis is anti-mandate in regards to vaccinations.
Many governors like Densantis saw government mandates on vaccinations and COVID-related lockdowns close businesses and lead to high unemployment rates in their states. Vaccinations have become a way to quickly lose a job if an employee chooses to be vaccinated.
The issue with mandates that Musk and Desantis point out is the individual right to choose. The government mandate forcing people to get a vaccine or have no job could be a severe health risk to many.
If someone has ongoing chronic health issues, they may put themselves at risk by taking the vaccine. If a child has had ongoing issues with other vaccinations, they too may be at risk from taking the vaccine.
The government mandate does not consider these outlying circumstances or the right to decide whether a citizen wants to take the risk. The mandate simply blankets the ruling and penalizes business owners if they do not enforce it.
It should be noted that there has been no official word on possible COVID shutdowns, nationwide masking, or nationwide mandates on vaccinations at this time.
