Aurora police arrested ten members of the Tren de Aragua gang this week following a violent takeover of an apartment complex in the city. The gang, which consists mostly of illegal immigrants from Venezuela, has been involved in numerous criminal activities, including rent extortion and illegal occupation of properties.
The arrests came after viral footage surfaced, showing armed gang members seizing control of an apartment building. Local officials, including Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman and Council Member Danielle Jurinsky, commended the police for their quick response in apprehending the suspects. The city had been tracking the gang’s activities for some time, with several incidents linked to their criminal network.
Eight of the ten arrested individuals have been confirmed as members of the Tren de Aragua gang. Two of them were involved in a shooting at a property known for gang activity back in July. Charges against the group range from child abuse to attempted first-degree murder.
The Aurora Police Department has partnered with local, state, and federal agencies to form a joint task force aimed at dismantling the gang’s operations. The task force has expanded its focus to other areas affected by the gang’s activity, including Arapahoe County and Denver.
With further investigations underway, additional arrests are expected as law enforcement works to combat the gang’s growing influence in the region.
