Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) has voiced concerns that even if President Donald Trump wins the 2024 election, powerful forces within the establishment — particularly the military — could work to obstruct his presidency. In an interview with Tucker Carlson, Vance discussed his fears about how much control these entities might exert over a second Trump administration.
Vance expressed confidence that Trump will win, noting that a decisive Election Night victory or a narrower result determined later is likely. However, when Carlson asked if Vance thought the establishment would accept Trump’s return, Vance acknowledged that this was a serious concern, responding, “That’s what worries me.”
The Ohio senator emphasized that while widespread voter fraud wasn’t the story of 2020, the real issue was the use of ballot harvesting and the suppression of negative stories about Joe Biden by Big Tech. Vance believes that these tactics will be used again in 2024, but he remains optimistic that Trump will prevail.
Carlson’s suggestion that the military, which he implied has been influenced by establishment elites, could resist Trump’s leadership was met with agreement from Vance. He argued that the biggest threat to democracy isn’t Trump’s legal challenges but the disconnect between Washington’s bureaucracy and much of the American public.
Vance also predicted that Trump’s efforts to deport millions of illegal immigrants would be fiercely opposed, with critics labeling these policies as “fascism” in an attempt to undermine his presidency.
Despite these potential challenges, Vance remains confident in Trump’s chances of winning, pointing to Vice President Kamala Harris’ weak polling numbers in key swing states as a reason for optimism heading into the 2024 election.
