Ineligible Wisconsin Nursing Home Resident “Voted” in 2020

The ongoing investigation into the irregularities surrounding the Wisconsin 2020 election has now revealed that an elderly lady living in a nursing home is an alleged victim of voter abuse.

A report from the non-profit public interest law firm Thomas More Society shows that Sandra Klitzke has cast ineligible votes in at least the last two elections. Klitzke has been legally unable to vote or register to vote since February 2020 as a result of a ruling made by the Outagamie County Circuit Court related to her care and residency in a nursing home.

Nevertheless, she was mailed an absentee ballot for the election held this week in Wisconsin. Records indicate she voted in the November 2020 general election and another election in April 2021.

Klitzke’s daughter and legal guardian Lisa Goodwin joined with the Thomas More Society to file the complaint against the Wisconsin Elections Commission, local election officials, and the clerk of the Outagamie County Circuit Court. The complaint provides the specific details in Klitzke’s case and outlines the larger election security problems plaguing the state.

The complaint cites the February 2020 court order that declared Klitzke ineligible to vote because of cognitive decline. The order came as part of a broader ruling appointing Goodwin as her legal guardian. Goodwin said that neither she nor any member of her immediate family completed an absentee ballot for Klitzke at any time following the court order.

The complaint also states that data collected from the state shows only 802 persons are listed as legally ordered to be incompetent to vote, although a review of county records indicated the number should include as many as 5,000 people.

State lawmakers have previously demanded the resignation of state Elections Commission Administrator Meagan Wolfe because she told local election clerks to mail unsolicited absentee ballots to nursing homes instead of visiting residents personally as part of the claimed COVID-19 response.

The complaint also details the case of a nursing home resident in Racine County who was recorded as having voted in the 2020 election, although she had died before Election Day.

There are around 92,000 persons in Wisconsin living in nursing home facilities. Joe Biden won the state in 2020 by 20,682 votes.
