While many Republicans and a growing number of Democrats have responded to the worsening illegal immigration crisis by calling on the Biden administration to secure the border and deport undocumented migrants, some prominent leftist officials maintain an unwavering allegiance to so-called “sanctuary” policies.
One such example is Democratic New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, whose state has experienced a sharp increase in the number of undocumented migrants arriving to take advantage of its permissive approach to those who enter the nation illegally.
Now, as the unemployment rate ticks up and the Federal Reserve insists that more jobs must be lost in order to moderate President Joe Biden’s inflationary economy, Hochul is focused on ensuring that undocumented migrants are in a position to take jobs away from the lawful citizens of New York.
They’re not migrants. They’re illegal aliens whose first act in this country was to break the law, and who are beholden to drug cartels and sex trafficking monsters. You enable these crimes against humanity. You should be prosecuted for treason. https://t.co/9F4h2n397b

In a statement released this week, she asserted: “Migrants and asylum seekers came here to work — so let’s put them to work.”
Claiming that the state is experiencing a “workforce crisis,” Hochul’s plan to “secure a brighter future for all New Yorkers” involves finding jobs for individuals in the country illegally.
She expounded on the sentiment during a recent news conference, identifying the estimated 125,000 migrants across the state who are consuming resources without contributing to the economy.
“That is not a sustainable dynamic,” she said. “It is just not sustainable in the long term. But we’ve dealt with it. So, I’m going to call on businesses to sign up even more.”
While the governor has not been as willing as Democratic New York City Mayor Eric Adams to place at least some of the blame on the Biden administration, she did acknowledge that the border has become “too open” in recent years.
“We are always so proud of the fact that New York has the Statue of Liberty in our harbor,” Hochul said during an interview over the weekend. “We are one of the most diverse places on Earth because of our welcoming nature, and it’s in our DNA to welcome immigrants. But there has to be some limits in place.”
For her part, U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) slammed the governor’s prioritization of immigrant employment, asserting that it will only exacerbate the problem
“While New Yorkers are demanding border security, Hochul is worsening the crisis with her failed ‘Sanctuary State’ policies,” she said. “Enough is enough. If Hochul is serious about ending our illegal immigration crisis, she would demand [Senate Majority Leader] Chuck Schumer pass and Joe Biden sign into law the Secure the Border Act, which is the strongest border security bill in history.”
