Vice President Kamala Harris is under scrutiny following allegations from former staffers who claim she created an abusive work environment during her tenure as California’s Attorney General. The accusations detail a pattern of verbal abuse and strict, fear-inducing protocols.
A former staffer recounted how Harris required employees to stand and greet her with “Good morning, general” each day. Additionally, staff were instructed to avoid making eye contact with her unless they were senior members, fostering a climate of intimidation.
These claims were brought to light in a 2019 op-ed for The Union by Democrat professor Terry McAteer, who recounted his son Gregory’s experience as an intern for Harris. McAteer wrote to expose “a side of Kamala Harris which the general public does not know.”
“Gregory was also given instruction to never address Harris nor look her in the eye,” McAteer wrote. “Staff members lived in complete fear during her tenure as attorney general from 2011 to 2017.”
Throughout her career, Harris has faced numerous accusations of being a “bully.” A recent report from OpenTheBooks.com highlighted a 95.1 percent staff turnover rate in her office as Vice President. Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) confirmed this in an interview with Fox News, saying, “Nobody lasts very long while working for Kamala Harris.”
These allegations raise serious questions about Harris’s leadership style and her treatment of employees, casting a shadow over her political career.
