A new congressional report has uncovered a sharp rise in Chinese Communist Party (CCP) espionage activity within the United States since Joe Biden and Kamala Harris assumed office. The report, released by the House Homeland Security Committee’s Subcommittee on Counterterrorism, Law Enforcement, and Intelligence, details over 55 cases of espionage linked to the CCP between January 2021 and October 2024.
According to Committee Chairman Mark Green (R-TN), “Beijing has continually encroached upon American sovereignty.” The documented incidents include theft of sensitive military data, corporate espionage, and transnational repression schemes targeting Chinese dissidents in the U.S. One case, involving Chinese national Ji Chaoqun, resulted in an eight-year prison sentence for Chaoqun, who was convicted in 2023 for attempting to recruit American scientists to assist the CCP.
Another alarming event occurred earlier this year, when Chinese operatives attempted to breach the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in California. These incidents raise growing concerns about China’s aggressive efforts to undermine U.S. national security.
Additionally, the report revealed a major increase in the number of Chinese nationals detained at the U.S.-Mexico border. More than 36,000 individuals were apprehended in Fiscal Year 2024, a figure surpassing the total apprehensions from 2007 to 2020 combined.
The Biden-Harris administration is facing mounting criticism over its response to this growing espionage threat. As investigations continue, Democratic nominee Kamala Harris and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz are being scrutinized for their alleged ties to China, fueling concerns about national security.
