Xavier Becerra, President Joe Biden’s Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary, wants to spend taxpayer money to send women across state lines so that they can get abortions.
While speaking to NBC correspondent Kate Snow, Becerra said, “We are looking into everything, including assisting in transportation, something that HHS doesn’t typically do.”
Becerra also said, “We’re going to be aggressive and go all the way. I would tell if — you’re recording so I won’t tell you. We are looking at every option and among those is transportation.”
Because HHS doesn’t typically do these kinds of things, it’s unprecedented for the Biden administration to expect taxpayers to consent to pay for abortions.
This plan came after Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) came up with the idea to set up abortion mills on federal land.
Warren said, “They could put up tents, have trained personnel and be there to help people who need it. It’s time to declare a medical emergency.”
Vice President Kamala Harris told CNN that the administration is not going to go in that direction. Instead, Harris said that they are going to do everything they can to “empower women to not only seek, but to receive, the care where it is available.”
Speaking at a press conference, Becerra said, “What I can tell you is that we are aware of a number of ideas and proposals, many of which we have been considering internally ourselves. We have made no decisions yet. We certainly would have a conversation with the president to make sure we implement his directives to us in trying to protect women’s reproductive health care services.”
Becerra continued, “Every option is on the table. We will take a look at everything we can, and everything we do will be in compliance with the law.”
Fortunately, the Hyde Amendment bans taxpayer-funded abortions. That doesn’t mean that Biden won’t try to skirt around it.
