Armed Man Defends Elderly Patron Beaten By Violent Assailant

A violent assailant recently beat an elderly man at a BBQ restaurant in Texas. The criminal wasn’t let off scotch free, though. An armed Texas man shot the assailant twice in the right arm, prompting him to flee the restaurant.

Police reported that around noon on Aug. 14, 2023, a male entered Woody’s Smokehouse in Centerville, Texas. The man was reportedly aggressive and insulted several customers at the restaurant, as reported by the Blaze. The incident was caught on surveillance video.

The assailant — Kevin Craig Anderson — reportedly entered the restaurant’s bathroom, where he beat an elderly man unconscious without stopping, according to police.

A man later came to the aid of the elderly man, but Anderson then tried beating him up, too. The good Samaritan also found himself on the floor, while Anderson allegedly continued to strike him. Moments later, the armed man shot Anderson twice in the right arm.

The unidentified hero’s actions led Anderson to walk straight out of the barbecue restaurant’s door. Police later found the assailant in his vehicle on the shoulder of a highway.

“He was transported by helicopter to St. Joseph emergency room in Bryan and then later transported to Hermann Memorial Hospital in Houston to be treated for his injuries,” the Leon County Sheriff’s Office said.

The elderly patron was also transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital.

Woody’s Smokehouse co-owner, Diana Wood, thanked law enforcement for their quick response to the incident.

“Prayers for my team and customers that were involved would be greatly appreciated. We are thankful to law enforcement for the fast service and the capture of the attacker,” Wood told KBTX.

“I’m thankful for the blood of Jesus that I pray daily over our team, our customers, our community, and the team of praying employees that unit with me each day in agreement for protection,” she added. “As we are reflecting, we asked ourselves what could have been the outcome if those prayers and cover was not implemented.”

“Praises to God for the covering of everyone. If I ever had something to preach it would be today and it would be now. Cover your family, your friends, your work, and your school with the blood of Jesus before you walk out of your house each day,” Wood continued.
